Amy Appelle, MA, RP
I’m inspired to see individuals and families grow and sustain positive change. I believe that everyone has the potential to evolve and heal at any stage of life.
We all face life moments that are filled with overwhelm and uncertainty. We may not know how to shift our emotional experience or make important decisions. We may feel scared about how to move forward.
If you are experiencing difficult emotions, confronting painful experiences, or working through conflict in relationships, therapy can help. My role is to support and guide you. I value my work of connecting with people who are seeking greater understanding, calm, and direction in their personal lives.
Psychotherapy Services for Individuals, Adolescents & Families
My Approach
I work from a relational, client-centred approach that values the skills, perspectives, and experiences that individuals and families bring to their meetings with me.
I embrace an integrative approach to therapy drawing on various evidence-based therapies, including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT and EFFT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy, as well as applications of attachment theory and mindfulness practices.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is a supportive, non-judgemental, and confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings about yourself and your relationships, as well as any burdens you may be carrying. I believe that individual therapy is unique to each person and is a collaborative process that can help to resolve past issues, address interpersonal challenges, or work through painful or unhealthy patterns. Working with me in individual therapy is an opportunity to feel less alone in your emotional struggle and to work towards greater self-understanding and self-acceptance.
Adolescent Therapy
Navigating adolescence and early adulthood can be difficult. These chapters come with a lot of uncertainty and decision-making about identity, schooling, career, and relationships. It can be both overwhelming and exciting. I work with youth and young adults to better understand and navigate their emotional and psychological wellbeing.
I have experience supporting young people struggling with:
Anxiety & Depression, Stress related to school and peers, Friendship & Relationship Problems, Family Conflict, Loss, Identity Issues, Abuse & Trauma
Family Therapy
Every family is unique and comes to therapy with strengths and challenges. I work in collaboration with parents and children to strengthen and build on their experience of connection and communication. I work mainly from an Emotionally-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) foundation in my work with families. I also provide parenting support and consultation to parents and caregivers who may be uncertain about how to help their loved one or child.
About Me
I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and I’ve worked in community mental health and the non-profit sector for the last 20+ years. I started my career counseling youth and families in Toronto and then moved into program management in mental health and education.
I’ve always been drawn to the energy and determination that people bring to navigating their life choices and relationships. My approach to working with individuals and families is rooted in exploration and collaboration. I work with warmth and humour to support people in developing their understanding of their strengths, emotions and goals. I work in partnership with families to enhance communication and connection.
Fees
I charge $180 per 50 minute session for individuals or families. Many insurance companies cover psychotherapy services as part of their extended health care plans. Check that your plan covers the services of a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) specifically. I am registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I will provide you with a receipt that can be submitted to your insurance provider at the end of each session.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel an appointment, please provide me with as much notice as possible. Appointments that are cancelled with less than 24-hours notice will result in the full fee charge for the session. This policy also applies to no shows.
